DEKKADANCERS and ARCHA+ announce an open call for performers and creators aged 18–26 for the DEKKA KICK-OFF project

 

DEKKADANCERS in cooperation with ARCHA+ is launching an experimental project and a series of DEKKA KICK-OFF courses aimed at creating a dance performance. Come kick-start your career. Get professional experience and know-how from our team, imparted through the very practice of dance and theatre. Come try to create a dance performance. We’ll walk you through the entire process for free!

We’re looking for

● 10 performers
● between the ages of 18–26
● who love dance, choreography, music, directing, dramaturgy, theatre, and art as such
● who want to try to create a new dance performance: from the choice of theme, to rehearsal, to premiere
● who have the opportunity to participate (ideally) on all Monday dates of workshops and rehearsals, the first performance of the ‘work in progress’, the premiere, and two performances of the production, which will be held at ARCHA+.

We offer

● Collaboration with professional dancers, choreographers, directors, dramaturgists, and other specialists in various theatre disciplines (light designers, composers, photographers, producers etc.) under the guidance of artistic directors of DEKKADANCERS.
● General and practical experience associated with the creation and overall development of a new dance performance.
● The space and technical facilities of ARCHA+ for rehearsals and the presentation of their work, where it is possible to freely express oneself, experiment, and discuss creation in its own right.

Project progress:
Selected participants will be guided to create a full-length dance performance from the beginning of the topic, through rehearsals, to the premiere. Under tutors from DEKKADANCERS, participants choose a theme, write a script, develop a set, and create the choreography. In addition, they will be encouraged to systematically present the overall communication strategy to the public.

DEKKADANCERS, in the role of consultants, will pass on their experience in various areas that work in synergy when creating a new performance. Lessons will focus not only on choreography as such (although this will be the main focus of the course), but we will also focus on light design and photographic work, collaboration with the composer, and the outlining of a marketing strategy for promoting a dance performance.

In the middle of the course (December 2024) the public will be presented with the ‘work-in-progress’, followed by a discussion with the public. The KICK-OFF will end with a full-length performance for the public with two performances (February 2025).

December 2024 Work in Progress at the ARCHY+ Small Hall
(this will be the first output, approx. 15–20 min. demonstration + subsequent discussion with public feedback)
February 2025 Premiere (about 40–50 min performance, followed by discussion with parents, friends, etc.)

Required open call application materials

● video (maximum 3 min. showcase of your dancing skills, excerpts from performances, improvisation, or whatever the applicant finds appropriate)
● cover letter (or introduction video, max. 1 min.)
